In "A Small Fire" we meet Emily, who runs her own construction company and has been married for decades to her husband John, and whose daughter’s wedding is fast approaching. Then Emily falls victim to a mysterious disease that strips away her senses and she is forced to rely on those around her, upending everyone's happy, middle-class lives. As she loses her ability to interact with the outside world, she discovers deep wells of feeling within herself for the people she loves.
