This production will take place in person with one pre-recorded streamed performance.

We are monitoring Covid safety and evaluating policies, and the safety of our cast, crew, audience and staff is among our top priorities. Mask requirements will be assessed and may or may not be required for audiences or cast during this production.

How could Chritsopher Marlowe, a known spy and England’s foremost playwright, be suspiciously murdered and buried in an unmarked grave just days before he is to be tried for treason? How could William Shakespeare replace Marlowe virtually overnight, when Shakepeare had never written anything before? This play intertwines the two mysteries to offer the only possible resolution. Murder Mayhem and manhunts in the underbelly of London and the greatest conspiracy plot of all time is hatched.

Cast: 5-9 Actors (Masculine-Presenting)

CONSTABLE HENRY MAUNDER, The narrator. He is an assistant to Sir Francis. Under the cloak of naiveté, he is very smart. (Maunder)

THOMAS KYD, Playwright (Kyd)

SIR THOMAS WALSINGHAM, Owner of Scadbury Manor. He is Marlowe’s new patron  and lover. Dignified, distinguished, respected and very clever. (Thomas)

CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE, England’s most prominent playwright. He is wild, a smidgen  wicked, and very attractive. (Marlowe)

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE LORD HENRY WRIOTHESLEY (pronounced “RIZ lee”), Friend to Sir Thomas and Marlowe. He is the “poster boy” for the gay community in  London. (Henry)

SIR FRANCIS WALSINGHAM, Secretary of State and Director of England’s Espionage  System. He is the cousin of Sir Thomas Walsingham and feared by everyone. (Francis)

NICHOLAS SKERES, A spy working for Sir Francis (Skeres)

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, an actor at the Rose Theatre (Will)

A YOUNG MAN

The play lends itself to as few as five actors with three actors taking the roles of Maunder, Sir Thomas Walsingham, and Christopher Marlowe; the other two actors may assume the remaining roles.

Content Advisory: This productions contains mature language and themes; such as murder, espianage and persecution.

Auditions will be online (Zoom) on January 15, 2022, with in-person Masked Callbacks on January 16, 2022.
