1984

adapted by R. Owens, W.E. Hall Jr., and W. A. Miles Jr.

October 9-25, 2020

This adaptation is true to the novel in which Orwell depicts with great power the horrors of man’s fate in a society where Big Brother is always watching—where everything that is not prohibited is compulsory. As your cast presents the play, you will be participating in a theatrical event that is both powerful and disturbingly provocative. Orwell himself once said, “I do not believe that the kind of society I describe necessarily will arrive, but I believe that something resembling it could arrive. The moral to be drawn from the dangerous nightmare situation is a simple one: Don’t let it happen. It depends on you.”

Production Team

Jon Haque | Director
Jon Haque has enjoyed an arts career as a regional actor, director, producer and Oklahoma City nonprofit leader for the past two decades. Notably, Mr. Haque has received critical recognition with the honor of an Emmy Award® for acting and an Emmy Award® for graphic design through his television work with PBS in 2007.

Jon’s stage work has enjoyed praise from peers and OKC audiences alike. Most recently Mr. Haque received wide critical acclaim during his one-man production of Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre’s Every Brilliant Thing in September 2019 and then immediately making the turn to play “Mr. Renfield” in 3rd Act Theatre’s Dracula. Oklahoma audiences may remember Jon from his stage appearances on the Pollard Theatre stage in Guthrie where he again received critical praise (best OKC actor 2017) for the high energy performance he delivered in Laughter on the 23rd Floor. Haque played “second banana” in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum opposite Broadway and Television star Robert Picardo.

Jon’s TV and film credits include the upcoming Basketcase filmed musical for the 2020 Oklahoma Fringe Festival, the hilarious TV show Lazy Circles with Oklahoma comedy icon Lucas Ross (now available on Amazon Prime), the regional film premieres of Blotto Film Production’s Low Steaks and God is Bad at Bowling.

Further recognition for Jon’s community leadership comes from the Oklahoma Gazette and OKC.biz as a member of the 2015 “40 Under 40” class.
